Another capture of the The Fred Hartman in black and white bridge as a pelican flew across the bridge. The bridge span 2.8 miles across the ship channel from La Porte to Baytown Texas. This is cable stay bridge and it is the largest in Texas out of only four other similar stay bridges. The other well known cable stay bridge is in Dallas, the Margaret Hunt HIll bridge.  The Fred Hartman bridge is actually the  77th largest in the world. The bridge was built to replace the Baytown tunnel that went underneath the water so they could dig it out for bigger ships to pass. I remember going through the tunnel when I was a kid always worried that it would collapse as we went through. Now today you have this great looking cable stay bridge.  This is the energy sector which is near the Port of Houston with refineries in every direction you look.
