Tucson at sunset with a silhouette of the saguaro cactus and a colorful sky in the background as the day turns to nigh. This colorful image was taken as the sun was setting in the Saguaro National Park. B eing from Texas I thought I had seen plenty of catus, but no I haven't. Every inch of this place has something that will stick or sting you, if your not very careful and I speak from experience! I love the look of the Saguaro as the sun began to set in this desert. It was amazing to see rows and row of these masses sagauro catus with most being between 20 to 30 ft ft high, but they can grow to be 70 ft high. The Saguaro cactus is a protected species so this allows them to thrive very well in this hostile and very dry desert landscape. Some species of the saguaro catus can live to be 150 years. Many birds use the holes created by the woodpecker to make their nest to raise their young. The fruit of the tree has been used to make a fermented drink made from the bright red fruit to summon rains by theO'odham tribes.
